    During the visit, the Foreign Minister met with Taro Aso, a prominent Japanese politician, Vice President of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan, and Chairman of the Uzbekistan-Japan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship League. During the meeting, issues of further strengthening the Uzbek-Japanese strategic partnership, developing inter-parliamentary dialogue, and expanding trade, economic, and investment cooperation were discussed. The important role of parliamentary diplomacy in the full implementation of agreements reached at the highest level was noted.

    A meeting was also held with Ichiro Takahara, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Japanese corporation JOGMEC, which specializes in ensuring the security of strategic resources in the oil, gas, and metals sectors. During the negotiations, issues regarding the expansion of geological exploration in Uzbekistan, the development of critical minerals, and the attraction of advanced Japanese technologies to these sectors were considered. Interest was expressed in expanding cooperation in the fields of enrichment and processing of mineral raw materials, improving the quality of metallurgical products, personnel training, and scientific research.

    Negotiations were held in Tokyo with the President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Akihiko Tanaka. An exchange of views took place on accelerating projects within the framework of the Cooperation Program until 2030, expanding cooperation in healthcare, supporting the private sector, and education.

     

  • $7.6 billion worth of projects launched in Karakalpakstan

    In Karakalpakstan, 11 projects worth $592 million have been launched, and the construction of another 47 projects worth $7 billion has begun.

    As part of his trip to the region, Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in a ceremony to launch facilities and start construction work.

    In recent years, conditions for entrepreneurship and investment have improved in Karakalpakstan. The republic's gross regional product grew from 8.5 trillion soums in 2016 to more than 54 trillion soums by the beginning of 2026. The share of the private sector in production reached 66%, and the number of operating business entities increased 2.5 times to 26,500.

    Over nine years, more than $5 billion in investment has been attracted to the region to create high-income jobs. By the end of 2026, the volume of foreign investment is expected to reach $2.5 billion. The number of foreign and joint ventures increased 2.2 times compared to 2018 and reached 271.
