The state visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the Republic of Korea became an important milestone in the history of friendship and special strategic partnership between the two countries
The centerpiece of the visit was the negotiations held with President Lee Jae-myung in both narrow and expanded formats. The leaders reaffirmed their firm commitment to elevating multifaceted cooperation to a qualitatively new level.
Meetings with National Assembly Speaker Cho Jeong-sik and Prime Minister Han Seung-soo outlined prospects for further deepening inter-parliamentary ties and cooperation in the trade-economic, investment, technological, and transport-logistics sectors.
The visit program featured the Uzbekistan-Korea Business Forum, the launch of joint projects, and a series of practical meetings between the Head of State and the leaders of South Korea’s corporate giants and major financial institutions. Notably, negotiations with the heads of the Export-Import Bank of Korea, Lotte, Hyundai, KIA, Rotem, Shinhan, KIND, KIGAM, KIRAM, and Incheon International Airport Corporation opened up new prospects for implementing major investment and high-tech projects in Uzbekistan.
The most significant economic outcome of the visit was an unprecedented package of documents: investment and trade-economic agreements worth $12 billion concluded at the business forum, and the adoption of an $8 billion partnership program with the Export-Import Bank of Korea. These agreements lay a solid foundation for attracting advanced technologies, fostering industrial cooperation, and establishing comprehensive high-tech production chains. Their implementation will facilitate the creation of modern enterprises and new jobs, while boosting the population's income and well-being.
Today, the visit program continues with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s participation in the inaugural "Central Asia – Republic of Korea" summit. This marks the first time the leaders of the five Central Asian states and the Republic of Korea have gathered in such a format. This historic event serves to elevate long-standing inter-regional dialogue to a qualitatively new level, imbue it with a systematic and long-term character, and unlock new opportunities for peace, innovation, and shared prosperity.
